RedZone Fantasy Five

Welcome to the RedZone Fantasy Five! Your weekly go to coverage for all things RZ fantasy brought to you by Andrew and Spencer! Here we will give you top 5 players per position that NEED to be in your lineups. We will be accessing more than just overall but how they matchup against opponents. We will also have a segment called “Welcome to Dumpsville”! A segment that tells you guys you absolutely do NOT need to be starting in any situation! Hope you all enjoy!

Set and Forget: The set and forget concept is where you set a player and do not sub him out until bye weeks happen. We’re going to use this to state the obvious when it comes to guys to keep the article more interesting weekly. These are subject to change based on performances if players start doing bad but as of now these guys are.

QB: Sam Darnold- Yes I know, Sam isn’t leading the league in yards but he’s mighty close. Sam has tossed two more touchdowns than Brady while only throwing one more interception. If your league is 4 points for TDs and -2 for INTs. Brady has accumulated 32 points so far just off of TDs but also taken away 8 of those due to INT, while Darnold has accumulated 40 points off touchdowns and lost 10 on interceptions. This race will be fun to watch but as of right now those are your two fantasy guys you shouldn’t bench until it’s time.

RB: Ezekiel Elliot- In an offense that struggles through the air, Zeke is sure to be the main focal point of this offense. Getting you an average 9.23 points per game just off rushing yards alone, while adding four touchdowns. There’s a few ways this could turn out. We are keeping an eye on Jonathon Taylor as well and the struggling pass offense of Cincinnati has made Joe Mixon a hot fantasy RB if he could only score touchdowns.

WR: Henry Ruggs- Ruggs is averaging a whopping 143 yards per game right now which sits you at 14.3 points per game just off his yardage. Add in his ability to make any catch a TD this is a recipe for fantasy football success.

TE: George Kittle- Not only is Kittle leading TEs in receptions, but the entire NFL. Also leading the league in TDs, as well as yards per game. It’s been a while since your most valuable pass catcher in fantasy comes from this position but if you were made fun of for “reaching” on him early in your drafts, so far you’re having the last laugh.

Defense: Pittsburgh Steelers- At the moment, this Steelers D is flaming hot. Pause. But in all seriousness these guys are tied in the league for forced fumbles and have forced 11 interceptions already. While also allowing the least amount of yards, this swarm is something you love to have taken a chance on in your draft.

THE FANTASY FIVE

QB

  1. Lamar Jackson: Duel threat QBs are always great to have in leagues that give six points for rushing touchdowns and four for passing. Last year Lamar gave Cincinnati fits all game and I don’t see that changing in the slightest. Look for Lamar to possibly lead your league in fantasy points in this position.
  2. Jared Goff: Goff is sitting .500 in his TD/INT ratio but is 7th in the league in passing yards. Tennessee’s defense has struggled to force opposing QBs into throwing interceptions while allowing close to 800 yards per game to QBs. If Goff can go turnover free, he should be a solid start this week.
  3. Carson Wentz- Wentz is matched up against the Bucs in week 5 and there’s reasons for optimism. Wentz has shown patience in ball protection since Coach Adel has taken over and he’s throwing for over 300 yards a game. His average yardage is already getting you 12.4 points. Mix that with the Bucs 6th worst pass defense you are looking at a nice day for Wentz if his game management is on point.
  4. Drew Lock- The Raiders are at the bottom 50% in pass defense yardage wise and Lock has shown to operate well this year. With only 3 INTs on the season, Lock looks to improve his TD numbers against a team that has potential to be a shootout game with two great offenses.
  5. Kamryn Killings- I absolutely think you should start this guy even though he’s a rookie. The only thing that may shy me away from him is his fumble numbers and fumbles being costly in fantasy. If Killings can stay away from Juan Thornhill and let the game come to him. He should have a serviceable day.

RB

  1. Christian McCaffrey- This has nothing to do with the Patriots defense, it has more to do with this guy averaging almost 100 yards a game as well as the damage he can do in the passing game. All PPR leagues this guy was a high pick but for Non-PPR, this is still a very solid player to have without a doubt.
  2. Joe Mixon- While the Burrow project is hitting a rough start this has opened up so much fantasy value for Joe Mixon. In his 3 games played he’s averaging about 120 yards on the ground. If he does this and gets one TD. That’s a useful 18 points.
  3. Leonard Fournette- Another struggling passing offense has to lean heavily on the production of their star RB. Which in this case may pay off. Fournette has had a nose for the end zone. To control the Seahawks the Jags will have to control the pace of the game and what better way to do so then give this guy the ball and let him work?
  4. Le’Veon Bell- This isn’t off anything Bell has done yet, but what we feel he has potential to do against the Bills. A team that is giving up over 100 yards rushing a game. Bell has also been crucial in the Jets passing game as well averaging 55 yards a game thus far. In these entertaining games between these two teams, Bell has seemed to be somewhat of an XFactor in the offensive operation. That Bills pass defense can be tough, so like the Jets will need to rely on Bell, I think you can too.
  5. Devin Singletary- Plenty of fan eyes will be on this game for many reasons. I personally believe whoever wins this game is whoever can establish a nice run game. Diggs will be Diggs but if the Jets key in on him, this could open up Singletary for some big plays. If Josh Allen starts playing poorly, the run will be vital.

WR

  1. Michael Thomas- This seems to be a no brainer for me. The teams best receiver is already averaging over 100 yards a game, mix that with the leagues worst pass defense, that’s a recipe for success for your squad.
  2. Chris Godwin- When facing a WR core like this, you key in on one guy and the other will toast you. I see Godwin fairing a bit better than Evans in this weeks matchup with Philadelphia. Evans has put the league on notice and Coach Adel will not let him have his way with his team.
  3. Jamison Crowder- While this Bills pass defense can be pesky, will they be? So far they are bottom 50% of the league in rushing and passing yards allowed and Crowder is a big play kind of guy. It could take only about 5 receptions for Crowder to be a good WR2 or Flex option for you this week.
  4. Stefon Diggs- Since his arrival last season, Diggs and Allen have been clicking very well. In a highly anticipated game you would assume the Bills passing game revolves around getting Diggs involved early and often. His knack for the end zone and big play ability puts him as a solid WR1 this week.
  5. DeAndre Hopkins- The Cardinals are having a rough start to the season but Hopkins has found the end zone an average once a game going into week 5. If he sticks to his average that’s already 16 points if you include his yardage. In a game against San Francisco, Hopkins is sure to be involved heavily if that offense is successful.

WELCOME TO DUMPSVILLE

Ah Dumpsville, a place no fantasy owner wants to visit but even the best of managers have to admit you made a bad pick up. Here is one player from each position you should not start this week or if you have them in general, it’s time to work those waivers.

QB: Daniel Jones- Jones is having a rough year thus far. Only tossing one TD while throwing 9 INTs. That 49% completion percentage isn’t very promising either. In games that are tough to judge QB play this week, Jones is a no for me.

RB: Kerryon Johnson- Johnson is averaging a measly 3.3 yards per carry and has one touchdown on the year. Against a good Packers team, the Lions will most likely have to abandon an already iffy run game.

WR: Tyler Boyd- If for some reason you decided to take a chance on an offseason bonding between Burrow and Boyd, drop him now. Burrow is struggling to stay in games and the run game is the only thing this team has going.
