10 Questions with Primetime - Nash Zelenka
Prime: Primetime… Primetime… 10 questions is BACK baby! I’m with the #2 pick in the RZ38 Draft. From Auburn University. QB Nash Zelenka from the Tennessee Titans. Wassup, man?
NZ: Hey Prime! What’s up with you?
Prime: Hey just coolin, man. Just coolin. You ready for 10 questions, my man?
NZ: Yessir!
Prime: ”Nashville” Zelenka. Auburn Tiger. Mr War Eagle himself. How did it feel to go #2, man?
NZ: Man it was surreal. You work your whole life for this moment. All the wind sprints. All the throwing drills. Late night practices. It all comes down to this. And I was nervous as hell, man. Haha. I puked more times than I can remember. Haha!
Prime: I know that’s right! Hahaha! I remember that day vividly. My butterflies had butterflies, man! So you got a lot of people focusing on you man. Mainly because of where you went. Is there pressure to perform in Tennessee?
NZ: It’s the RZFL, man. There’s ALWAYS pressure to perform. No matter where you go. And to be honest, I like the pressure. It makes me lock in. Dedicate time in the film room. Spend hours and hours throwing to my receivers after practice. Pressure is good, sir.
Prime: Nice. I like your mentality. But pressure busts the pipes too. Coach Brown received his fair share of criticism for “tanking” to get you. Word is, he had his eyes on you the very 1st day of recruiting. How do you feel about that?
NZ: Honestly, if he did tank, I’m happy he did. It says a lot about him that he would do everything he could to secure me. I liked Coach B from the start. I was born in Dresden. Not too far from Nashville. So I’ve watched Titan football from the beginning. And I was excited when Coach took over. He’s a Maverick. Very emotional guy. He probably hit me the hardest of anyone on day 1 of pad drills. Haha! I loved it! So it’s truly a dream to get to play professionally here. My whole family gets to go to the games.
Prime: Haha! Coach Brown is a real piece of work, that’s for sure. Some say you were born to play in Nashville, man. You won the Tennessee HS State Championship in a blowout. Then went on to post great #s and lots of big wins at Auburn. Is winning now important to you, knowing that this team was the 2nd worst team in the RZ last year?
NZ: Yes and no, man. Of course you wanna win every game you play. Or else we wouldn’t go out every week to strap it on and leave it all out there. But I’m here to help build a winner. And I’m here for the long haul. We wanna build a Juggernaut. A Dynasty. I see the fire in Coach Brown’s eyes. And I want the same thing he wants. So I’ll be patient, and impatient at the same time.
Prime: Coach Tiko has been doing a lot of shuffling and wheelin and dealin in the last couple weeks. Taking a lot of criticism. Everybody wants to know. Is he blowing it all up in Tennessee? Are you guys in a full rebuild?
NZ: This is a business. And Coach wants to put the best product out there. Things didn’t start as well as we’d like. So Coach made moves to get us weapons on both sides of the ball. He was in a unique situation where the CBA made him make tough choices. So he made a decision to use players to grab draft assets. I’m cool with that. I see the vision. And I’ve bought into it.
Prime: You replaced the traded Marcus Mariota. Another highly scrutinized move by your Organization. Was it tough to gain respect in the locker room after that? Tough to gain respect of the fans who adored MM?
NZ: Yea, it hasn’t been easy. I had to stop watching TV for a minute. Shade was everywhere. Marcus was loved here by many. And when they traded him even I was like ‘What are they doing?’ But then you put the pieces together that you were part of the plan. Coach wanted his own guy. A pocket guy. And like my man Mike McClure said, Winning fixes everything. So we will. We Will..
Prime: I heard you and Cam Newton are good buddies. Friends since your Auburn days. Rumor is yall went out on Draft Night to celebrate and he spent a ton on you. Can you tell America what yall did? What he buy you?
NZ: Man, Cam is my boy. He was at my final 3 games at Auburn. He was with me on Draft Night when the Titans called. He has been with me every step of the way for support. Love that guy. Yea we did it up on Draft Night. It was crazy. He took me to a late night tailor for some fittings. Same guy he uses for those post game outfits. Haha! Also a couple hats and some jewelry. But what we did? Man let’s just say our night was like Vegas. So I ain’t tellin ;)
Prime: Haha! What happens in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas, man. What’s on your Christmas List, man? What does “Nashville” Zelenka want most?
NZ: Well, first I wanna silence the critics. I want to finish this season strong and get to the playoffs. Would love to win the ship in my rookie season. Take home a few awards like ROTY. Then get some big ticket items in the offseason. Is that too much to ask? I think I’ve been a pretty good boy this year. Haha!
Prime: Man those sound good to me. Haha! Santa baby! You listening? What message do you have for your Titan Faithful, man?
NZ: Stay with us y’all. We are gonna figure this thing out. All we need is a little patience. You’re gonna get my best every single day. You can count on that. And I promise you, I’m always gonna motivate my teammates to do the same. Stay Strong. Titan Up!
Prime: That’s a great message. I like this young man yall. “Nashville” is going places! Ok. Last Question, man. And you know this is the Primetime Question. How big a house did you buy your mama, man?
NZ: My mom is a true Southern Belle. Born and raised in Tennessee. So I got her a HUGE Victorian Mansion. 10 bedrooms so she can entertain family for the holidays and get-togethers. And a guest house in the back for Aunt Maybelline and her country a** family. Hahaha! Wait, don’t print that. My mom is gonna kill me. Haha!
Prime: Hahaha! We all got that crazy Aunt with them bad a** kids, man. Haha! My man, Nashville Zelenka! Man, it’s been an absolute pleasure visiting with you, bruh. Good luck with those Titans, my man. I’ll be looking forward to calling you when you ball.
