Giants manage to open up the season with a victory despite losing several key players in Free Agency. While most analyst and even a few members of the organization believed this would be a rebuilding year the young talent on this squad believes other wise. “I have always been part of winning teams since peewee league and coming into the NFL I expected to continue that trend. I’m sure some people want us to lose this year and get another top 10 pick but if I have anything to say about it, that won’t be happening.” Said rookie Halfback JaWaun Shepherd. The rook struggled to establish consistency in the ground game but that didn’t stop him from recording 2 TDs in his debut. Fellow rookie WR Whitted also impressed in his first professional outing. “I felt good out there, I want to bring that same energy that my predecessor OBJ brought when he was here. I worked out with him during the off-season and really thought I’d get the opportunity to team up with him and Big Shep when I got here. I’m disappointed he had to go to Carolina with the rest of the jump ship crew but I’m grateful to still have Big Shep here to mentor me, he’s grooming me to be the next big thing.”
The Giants will now turn their focus to preparing for the New Orleans Saints and Tucker Martin who they were rumored to be inquiring about in trade talks. Giants General Manager Lamar Ihedigbo had this to say in regards to the matter. “We did reach out to New Orleans about Tuck but they didn’t return our phone calls. It’s ok we believe we have surround Inzer with enough young talent to be able to compete with any team in this league. We’re looking to prove that when we take the field against them this upcoming week.” Giants will look to improve to 2-0 in another matchup against a NFC South opponent.
