Even In Victory, Titans Lose Big
The Tennessee Titans walked away from MetLife Stadium with Bittersweet results, defeating the New York Giants 36 - 33. This emotional rollercoaster of the game was filled with everything from heartache and heartbreak, to sweet euphoria.
The game started off well for the Titans, as their defense was able of holding the New York Giants to a first possession punt deep in their own territory. Wants the Titans offense receive the ball, they moved it down the field with a surgeons accuracy, scoring the early touchdown. Marcus Mariota look to be his old self again. Oh how we were wrong. The Titans defense once again did an excellent job containing the Giants offense, forcing them to punt the ball once again. However, this time there punt drop the Titans deep into their own territory. Two plays into their drive, a sack in the endzone resulted in a safety. This seemed to charge the Giants team to play more aggressively.
From there the teams seemed to decide to take turns. Where one team would punt so would the other, where one team would score so would be other, back and forth it went until it was 14 to 14 at the end of the half. Both quarterbacks had multiple turnovers, and both quarterbacks had a couple of scores. Both teams had two rushing touchdowns. And both teams felt their heart break that day as well.
While the Giants lost to a Tyler Graham touchdown reception with six seconds left on the clock, it was the Titans who lost big as their team captain went down with a season-ending injury on an early goal-line stand. Wesley Woodyard went down with a season-ending pectoral tear, and it sent the Titans emotionally reeling. He was the Bedrock of their defense, and the leader of their entire team. Here's to hoping that he makes a speedy recovery and doesn't consider retiring as many have speculated.
The Titans open up their season series against the Indianapolis Colts next week. Here's to hoping that rookie middle linebacker Dajuan Murray is amenable to trial by fire.
