Cardinals Use Rushing Attack to Beat Bucs

The Tampa Bay Bucs traveled over to LSU West to meet up with the Cardinals for a week 2 match-up. The Cardinals were coming off a shacking by the Patriots in Week 1, at home non-the-less. Both teams bring in two great defenses, while the offenses look polar opposites. The Bucs have a young and upcoming Quarterback and wideouts to go with a powerful run game; while the Cardinals have an established Palmer leading the way with a powerful back in Johnson.

This one would be all about the defenses on both teams. The Bucs forced out rookie QB Jones from the Cardinals starting lineup. Cardinals turned their program over to Palmer, who would try and lead the way against a pesky and fast Tampa defense.

Tampa would also establish a very good ground game throughout the day. Mighty Mouse Doug Martin would find hole after hole out of the shotgun, as the Bucs would run a majority of shotgun offense all day long. The Cardinals defense had very few answers as Winston would throw crisp passes, on time to his big wideouts all day long. After a quick 6-0 lead (missing the extra point) the game would go into half with a 6-3 lead by Tampa bay, after picking off Palmer in the endzone to end the half.

The lead would change hands as early in the 3rd quarter, Chris 2k Johnson would take a handoff 60+ yards for the touchdown and give the Cardinals a 10-6 lead. Tampa would tighten the game up late in the 3rd quarter as they added on another field goal to make it 10-9 Bucs.

Another deep drive for the Cardinals would be helped by a pass interference call on 2nd and goal in the endzone. This would set up a Johnson touchdown and a 17-9 lead for the Cardinals. With time running out in the game, the Bucs would be forced to punt. The Tampa defense would hold the Cardinals to a punt themselves and get the ball back on last try. Tampa would get the drive near mid-field before Branch picked off Winston to seal the game.

Cardinals hold on for the victory, despite being tied in passing yards and being out rushed. Next up is the Bills and their powerful offense lead by Coach Ducks.
