Bills Stifle Chargers 31-5 in San Diego
The Buffalo Bills defense was key in the team's Super Bowl run last season and looked as though they had improved over the off-season, but the thing they did last season that made them successful, forcing turnovers, was lacking in the first three games of the season. Despite the absence of turnovers, the Bills travelled to San Diego with a 2-1 record and prevailed to improve to 3-1.
Defensively for the Bills, three different players were able to haul in interceptions. Kevin Johnson, Ronald Darby, and Zack Sanchez all grabbed INT's inside the redzone for Buffalo, thwarting any attempt to the outside by Philip Rivers.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bills struggled to sustain drives in the first half. Brett Hundley scored the first touchdown for Buffalo, scrambling to find the endzone on the first drive of the game. Darius Jackson would give the Bills their second TD with a 35 yard TD run, his longest run of the season after a Pro Bowl season last year.
Tyler Ervin would provide two more touchdowns on the ground, his first touchdowns of the year. Brett Hundley finished with under 200 yards passing, but the Bills were able to get yardage when they needed it through the air.
Brandon McManus continued his hot streak in the kicking game, booting through a 56 yard field goal near the end of the first half, pushing his total from 55+ yards to three made FG's on as many attempts. McManus's longest made FG of the season is from 62 yards.
The Bills open their divisional schedule with a matchup against the Dolphins in week 5.
