Bills Trample Panthers 33-9
In defense of their OMFL Super Bowl victory, the Buffalo Bills opened their season against a tough Carolina Panthers team and prevailed with a 33-9 win. The Panthers pride themselves on a Linebacker corps much like the Bills have constructed, but the Panthers defense struggled to cover the middle of the field and had a tough time stopping the run in crucial moments.
Brett Hundley struggled with accuracy throughout the game, but was able to spread the ball around well and threw for over 250 yards. Darius Jackson, Tyler Ervin, Dri Archer, and Hundley combined to rush for nearly 150 yards and punched it in twice on the ground.
The Bills defense allowed a touchdown on the very first drive of the game as the Panthers marched directly down the field, but the D help strong as the game progressed, preventing points for the rest of the game despite the Panthers starting inside the red zone in the 3rd quarter following a strip-sack. Reggie Ragland and Kevin Johnson both contributed interceptions for the Bills defense, starting off the season with a positive turnover ratio, a stat the Bills led the OMFL in last season.
Brandon McManus started his Bills debut with a missed extra point, but redeemed himself with a 2/2 showing on FG's, including a 62 yard field goal late in the 4th quarter.
The Bills will host the Broncos in week two, which could very well be the game of the week in the OMFL.
