The 49ers jumped on top early early at MetLife Stadium notching a FG by Jordan Gay, who surprisingly still has a job after last weeks meltdown going 0-4. On the following drive Jets quarterback Geno Smith throws and INT into the waiting hand of rookie CB DJ Woods giving him 2 interceptions on the year. Woods also finished with 7 tackles and has been great in run support so far this season. 49ers QB Matt Mullins capitalized on the turnover leading a drive down the shortened field and capping it with a 2 yard TD toss to FA acquisition TE Hoomanawanui.
The 49ers pass rush was firing on all cylinders in New York this week sacking Geno Smith 8 times and creating turnovers with a forced fumble and recovery and multiple hurried throws that led to INT's. LB Aaron Lynch and DE Buckner each recorded 2 sacks leading the 49ers.
In the 2nd quarter, San Fran's roller coaster kicker made two more FG's with one of them good from 53 yards. He was 4-4 on kicking for the day. Jets QB Geno Smith led a late 2nd quarter drive and connected with TE Jace Amaro for the first of two Td's he'd catch on the day. Score at halftime, 16-7.
The 3rd went scoreless, and the Jets showed that they weren't going away. Their offense, when able to give Smith time, moved to ball very well and efficiently. They racked up 18 first downs in the game, mostly due to Smith's air attack. He was able to answer another field goal by San Francisco with another TD pass to TE J. Amaro. Still down by 5. Time had run out on the Jets.
The Jets now have two losses and are sitting at 1-2. The 49ers are able to jump start their run game a bit and are able to muster their second road win of the year. They sit at 2-1.
Final: 19-14
next week: at home against the Dolphins.
Notables: Jets DE S. Richardson recorded 2 sacks in the game
49ers switched their O-Line up a bit before the game starting A. Shipley over Z. Beadles at Center and plugging J.Garnett in as the starter at LG over D. Kilgore. The 49ers finally eclipsed the 100 yard mark for rushing in a game this season.
