For the first game of his professional career, rookie 2nd round QB, Mason Mullins looked fearless against a tough Bucs defense. On a rain soaked field in Tampa Bay the young left handed gunslinger threw for 267 yrds and 3 TD's while throwing no interceptions.
The Bucs put a touchdown on the board first with a 77 yard bomb to TE A. Seferion-Jenkins. A FG followed that a drive later and it was 10-0. Following a late 2nd quarter Int from safety J. Tartt. QB Mullins connected for long touchdown pass to Torrey Smith making the score at halftime 10-7.
The second half was a defensive battle and the Bucs continued to dominate the trenches completely shutting the Niners running game down. Coach Motorgut started to build more trust in his young quarterback as the game went along. After seeing him connect with Torrey Smith for his 2nd touchdown of the day. And the poise he showed in leading a late 4th quarter drive that ended with him connecting with TE Vance McDonald in the back of the endzone to put the 49ers up 21-17. The Buccaneers were driving the ball down the field on the next drive, getting ever closer to a touchdown that would put them up by one, when up and coming cornerback Dontae Johnson stepped in front of a pass intended for K. Aiken and clinched the game with a clutch INT. Niners Win! After an abyssmal 1-14-1 performance a year ago things are looking up in San Fran this week.
Final 21-17
