The Broncos are sitting at 2-6 at week 8 of the MSR 32 season. We started off extremely slow going 0-6 to start the season. A multitude of issues were occurring and have been addressed the previous two games. 1. Rookie QB Wallner was struggling at the new under center pro style offense, drastically different than his spread college days at Texas A&M. The scrambler was struggling with his drop back mechanics and pocket presence. The slightest pressure would get him flustered. Alot of experimenting and practicing has occurred with him to get him squared away. Past three games for him have been great and extremely efficent. Rookie will keep working and improving. 2. Our superstar RT, Clay Sears, that we drafted in the 3rd round of the draft was benched. He is an extremely raw and young talent and he was not ready for NFL defenses. He gave up three sacks and was not run blocking the first 4 weeks so we decided to sit him and bring in the superior Dalton Risner and use h as a slow developmental talent. Offensive production has increased drastically after this switch. Risner has been signed to an additional 3 year contract extension. 3. The Broncos defense has been extremely porous. We are dead last in the league in pass defense. It has been abysmal coverage in the secondary. We have 14 interceptions on the year and have alot of sacks, but it has been a horrid year in pass coverage. Previous two weeks has been better at generating early and often turnovers and has played into our favor. Pass defense needs to be fixed one way or another. 4. The final issue that was addressed was offensive play calling. With the star rookie QB, we were expecting entirely too much from him. We was not setting him up with the run game and throwing entirely too often and too much. This has been addressed and the previous three weeks has been wonderful for him and has been extremely efficent. Bright spots and players to watch during the last half of the MSR 32 season: 1. RB Javonte Williams is currently running away from the pack in the race to be the league rushing champion. Once the offensive line issue was addressed, he has been unstoppable. Paired with his change of pace rookie backup who has become way more involved, Landry Davis, look for the Broncos to continue leading the league in rushing yardage by a long shot. 2. Rookie 4th round draft pick DT/End Landon Webster has been a key contributor. He currently has 4 sacks on the year. While his numbers may say otherwise, film has showed him causing major disruptions and many hurried throws. Stat wise, the Broncos currently sit around the 5 spot in total offensive production. League leader in rushing and prior to scoring 51 on the Steelers in Week 8, was averaging 31 ppg. We have moved ourselves from being in a large turnover deficit to being +1 in the turnover margin on the year. Can the Broncos keep up the momentum and efficent offensive production for the remainder of the season? There is still a glimmer of hope for a wildcard birth but we will have to be perfect from here on out. How do you think the Broncos will finish the last half of the season? Let me know in the comments. Till next time, Colestang out.
