While the Titans got off a solid 6-3 start, they slowed down as the regular season went on, finishing with a disappointing 8-8 record, missing the playoffs yet again. While the team minimized the impact of losing Derrick Henry for most of the season due to a foot fracture, it is clear it had a major effect on the team. Rookie HB Marcus Slay, who we profiled previously, tried his best to fill in Henry's gigantic shoes, finishing his rookie season with over 1000 yards from scrimmage and 17 total TDs, however seemed to lose some of his prior explosiveness with the larger role. Despite the injury to Henry, the Titans an offense made an impressive leap this season, finishing top 5 in every major category except rushing yards. Impressively, the team had 3 receivers finish with over 1000 receiving yards (Jonnu Smith, Ramon McFadden, AJ Brown). WR Ramon McFadden led the team in receiving TDs in his first season with the team, catching 13 TDs. The team's season was primarily undone by their defense, which finished in the bottom 10 of every major category. There were a few bright spots, as free agent signee William Jackson came up withh 7 INTs and returned 5 of them for TDs. Safeties Kevin Byard and Bryce Childers each picked off 5 passes. 2nd year CB D.J Brown was impressive in his first season with the team, racking up 53 tackles (3rd on the team) as well as 4 INTs. The team was unable to generate much of a passrush, with Jeffery Simmons leading the team in sacks with 6. Rookie EDGE Alex Williams had an inconsistent season, picking up 5 sacks in his rookie year. At times he looked dominant, getting 3 sacks in one game, however at also disappeard for periods of time. Look for the team to have another eventful offseason, as the team has already been implicated in multiple trade rumors and has significant cap room this offseason.
