Seattle Seahawks Mid-Season Check In

by iBlair | 6 years ago | 0 Comments

At the halfway point in Coach Blair's first full season as the Seahawks head coach, he has the team sitting just outside the playoff picture, with a shot at the division title, but a more realistic chance at a Wild Card spot. The team has been lead by a top 15 offensive and defensive unit, with the main highlight being the defense that is currently second in the league in takeaways. Offensively, the unit has been lead by a young and raw, but promising OL, with the one year deal A.J. Green signed proving to be a large part of Seattle being able to finish drives in the red zone.

Checking in with Seattle's rookies after 8 games provides an outlook to an incredibly bright future, with Coach Blair striking what appears to be absolute gold in several key spots.

  • Number 1 overall pick LB Gilbert Gaiter has wasted no time breaking into the spotlight racking up 27 tackles, 4 TFL, and 7.5 sacks in 8 games this season.
  • 2nd round pick S Martinez Spurlock has paired wonderfully with Earl Thomas and is leaving some fans with visions of Kam Chancellor. Spurlock has 42 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks, and 4 INTs to start his career.
  • 3rd round pick, C Chase Haley has struggled in pass protection giving up 5 sacks in 8 games, but Seattle knew his weaknesses coming in to the league, he has shown flashes in his run blocking at times giving Penny and Carson some holes to work with.
  • 4th round speedster Percy Harvin Jr. has been electric in the first half of the season, although he has only recorded 8 catches, he has 329 yards and 3 TDs on those 8 catches.
  • 5th round DT Khalek Miller has possibly been a gem for the Seahawks. He has earned a spot in the lineup and has appeared in 5 games so far, with 3 tackles, 2 TFL, and has managed to swat a pass at the LOS and has even intercepted a pass.
