It may not have gone down the way the Steelers wanted, but they'll take the victory either way. The Steelers go into Houston and beat the Texans 31-24 behind an efficient offense and an opportunistic defense that made plays when they were needed. Despite giving up over 400 yards of offense, the Steelers ability to win the turnover battle was the ultimate difference. With the Texans driving inside the Steeler's 5 yardline and 7 seconds on the clock, D.Watson was intercepted in the end zone by Ulysees Gilbert III to end the game.
Offensively, Josh Rosen started hot as he drove the offense down the field, but was ultimately intercepted in the end zone on his first drive. He did manage to come through when needed. He threw for 212 yards and 1 touchdown, while being sacked 3 times. Roman Whitlock picked up where he left off, after a Rookie of the Year campaign in 2026. On 12 carries, he had 168 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 62 yard touchdown run. JuJu Smith-Schuster led the way for the receivers with 5 catches for 116 yards.
For nearly 4 quarters, the defense could not get pressure on Deshaun Watson. It wasn't until the last drive of the game that Redmon Blackwood got the Steelers only sack of the game. Despite the lack of pressure, the Steelers were able to intercept Watson 3 times, including a Devin Bush interception that was returned for a touchdown early in the game.
The Steelers were far from flawless this game and they see plenty of work to do on the practice field. Regardless of how they feel right now, they still head back to Pittsburgh with a 1-0 record. Next up they will face a 1-0 Rams team that is coming off of an upset win over the defending NFC West Champion Cardinals. It will be interesting to see if the Steelers are able to make it 2 in a row.
