Both defenses came out firing, giving everything they had as the Saints and Falcons beat up on eachother. Cameron Jordan led the way for the Saints defense with 3 first half sacks, which helped keep this defensive battle going well into the second half of the game. Unfortunately for the Saints, that dominance faded in the fourth quarter as the Falcons rallied to finish with 17 unanswered to steal victory 24-14.
The scoring was kicked off in the 2nd quarter, off of a 15 yard Brees to Colston touchdown pass. The combo then added a 2nd touchdown on a 24 yard pass late in the 3rd quarter and that's when Atlanta's WR/QB duo decided to answer back. With the game 14-14, Matt Ryan found Julio Jones for arguably the games biggest play. With 4:38 left in the game, 2nd and 18 to go after a disasterous sack, Ryan found Jones down the seem for a 60 yard catch and run which turned out to be the game winner.
This one hurts the Saints the most as they let one slip away late, but both teams have questions going forward. Can Jake Matthews bounce back after a whooping by Cameron Jordan? Will the Saints replace Brandon Cooks as punt returner after his 2 muffed punts? Did the high potential Rashaan Melvin blow his chance at keeping a starting role for the Falcons after allowing 2 Colston touchdowns? It's safe to say that both offensive line's need work and only time will tell if these QB's will be able to make it through the season at this rate.
