Rarely does a week 2 matchup carry so much importance. But with the Vikings, Lions and Packers all with opening week wins and a division that is projected to be close until the finish, the Packers/Vikings week 2 matchup was set to give one team a leg up on the division race.

In a back and forth game that came down to who had the ball last, the Vikings pulled out a 3 point victory despite losing their star running. Coach Bird after the victory said "The biggest surprise was the play of HB Murray, coming in after the injury to HB Cook, he finished with 13 carries 195yds and 2 tds. WOW! However, the biggest surprise was the play of the oline who paved the way for Murray. We thought our oline was going to be a weak spot for us this season, but they really had a gutsy performance this week. We are hoping this will be their normal play and not just an anomaly".

Not only was Coach Bird complimentary of his offense but he also issued a warning to teams playing the Packers in the coming weeks "We discovered that if you want to slow the Packers down, you are going to have to gameplan to stop TE Graham and WR Cobb. They were both nearly unstoppable, so watch out for them".

Despite being very complimentary about his team and excited for the win, Coach Bird still wanted to stress their team had to clean up some stuff before he would be happy and said "We have won our first 2 games and feel good about that, but both of them were close hard fought games. The biggest issue for us is cleaning up our turnover issue. If we can do that, then I feel really good about our season".

Looking forward at the Vikings next couple of weeks they can really cement their status as the dominant team in the NFC. In week 4 they play the ultra talented Rams and in week 5 they will have a chance to get revenge for their embarrassing NFC Championship loss. Here's to hoping these two games will be as good and close as this Packer/Viking game.
