Jags Defense Shuts Out Colts in Second Half to Win

The Jags came into week 7 after losing a tough game last week to the Rams hoping to bounce back this week. However the first play they had on offense, was a pick 6 , picked off LOLB Jabaal Sheard . The next possession was not much better, with another int by Barkley on about the 45 . The Colts took advantage and scored another TD on a pass to Wayne Gallman Jr to go up 0-14 and still in the first quarter. The Jags then got the ball down to the 31 but had to settle for a fg to end first quarter 3-14.

The Jags defense started to get some stops and held the Colts to only two fgs in the 2nd quarter. While their offense got moving some and managed a td but went for two to try to tie the game at 14 but instead missed the 2 point try to make it 9 -14 at the half.The Jags got the ball after halftime and drove down and scored to make it 15-20 . Then right at the very end of the 3rd quarter, the Colts had the ball on 12 yard line looking to take the lead, when Andrew Luck threw an ill advised pass right to CB A.J. Bouye in the endzone and ran it all the way back for a 102 yard return for a TD.This time they went for 2 to try to make it a 3 point game, however they failed again and it was 21-20 after 3. The fourth quarter the Jags defense had a few sacks, including a sack fumble but their offense could not do alot but did manage a fg to make it 24-20.  On the Colts final drive , they failed on a 4th and 13 on a pass that was dropped upon the hit for the first down at the Jags 10 yardline. That allowed the Jags to run a few plays to run the clock out, but on one of the plays HB Fournette appeared to fumble the ball and the Colts picked it up, but upon further review he was rulled down by contact. The Jags ended up getting a first down and the game ended 24-20 .

"Both teams fought hard today, im proud of our guys for not quitting eventhough they started off so slow and bad. They stuck with it and didnt give up , even when down 6-20 at one point. We still have alot to work on but glad to get this win. Going into a bye week on a win is always good for team morale, but we know we have a tough game coming out of it against the Bengals after the bye week and coach Chetty always has the ability to make his guys play great every year, every game . We know him well and he always coaches his guys up so well.We will have more than our hands full in week 9 so we will need a full week off to think hard about what we will be up against then. We just take 1 week at a time right now " said coach Tizel in a post game interview.
