Game winning sack fumble for td by poohty_t

Yet another week the Vikings are riding a wave. By far their best start to a first half of a season under coach Tizel. After last weeks blow out of the Packers , the Vikings felt confident coming into this weeks game. The first quarter saw both teams with a couple of turnovers, but both defenses being very stout. The first quarter ended with only 3 points on the board for the Vikings. The second quarter both teams defenses showed how stout they were by both defenses scoring on pick 6's . The Vikings offense added a another td on a pass to WR Tyree  and the Lions added a FG to make the score at halftime 10-17 . The second half started with the Vikings taking an 11 play drive down to the 8 yardline but had to settle for a FG, to make it 10-20. However the Lions then drove down and scored a TD on a 1 yard run by FB Burton on a fb dive on the goaline to make it 17-20.Then they got another int on defense , and ended up with a long FG to make it 20-20  going into the 4th.

To start the 4th the Vikings offense stalled and had to punt. The Lions ended up on a 3 and out, then the Vikings eneded up punting away as well. Looking like a stalemate at this point with the game tied. The Lions then drove down the field to the 34 yard line and are forced to kick a FG with 3:40 left in the game to go up 23-20. The tide had seemed to turn on the Vikings at home. Bray was having a bad night with 3 ints and 1 for a td already and he also had a fumble as well . But that did not stop the Vikings from believing they could still pull it out. They drove down the field ,and  down to the 39 yardline of the Lions with 1:19 left in the game. They nailed the 56 yarder to tie the game at 23-23. The Lions got the ball back starting their drive at the 33 yardline with 1:11 left. After a couple of drags underneath, they found themselves at the Vikings 46 yardline and getting close to FG range, but now with only 1 timeout left. They worked up a play they thought would surely get them into FG range comes out in a tight formation. However Tre Thomas had other plans, as he slung the LT to the ground and went for the qb , on the hit for the sack as he went then to sling the QB to the ground , the ball pops out and up right into the arms of the very aware RE Hunter, who then ran his way 39 yards to the endzone to give the Vikings the game winning score with 24 seconds left to go in the game to make it 23-30 (as seen in highlight above).

After the game coach Tizel had this to say " Look , we got lucky again , but one thing i will say, our defense and special teams has shown up big for us this season no doubt. Special teams won us a game in OT against the packers in week 5 , and here our defense came up big time with their backs against the wall at the end of the game.Had they given up another 10-15 yards, the Lions would have likely pulled this one out. Thomas is a monster out there , he knew we had to have it. This is what we talked about so much in the past. Expect most of the times we were on the losing side of the close games not able to make 1 play to get the win. Last season we had 3 games end within the 10 yardline and down less than a td and couldnt get in. We have for sure had our share of close game losses 3 close games and we pulled it out in each of those making the 1 play needed to change the outcome.Im so proud of this team, they are finally playing to their potential. We have built up a very nice team here, and last season was a huge let down as we expected good things then. The start of this season in just the first two weeks we suffered 4 major injuries losing 3 starters and a good back up LB .Thankfully Heath will be back next week, but may take a few weeks for him to get back into the flow of things. We hope not, because we need a strong game next week to have any kind of a chance against the Bears , three time , back to back to back superbowl champs. Its basically a David vs Goliath game for us anytime we play them.Hopefully Heath wont be to rusty, but after 8 weeks out , you just never know.Im surprised we made it this far with that many injuries to major starters and still getting wins. However , while we are happy with our current record, there is still half a season left and alot of football to be played. We hope this is our year to make it to the playoffs, but we will see .Right not its just take it 1 game at a time."
