After 11 weeks into this season, the Vikings are sitting at 4-6 .Even after winning a good game against divisional rival Lions in week 11, coach Tizel is still up in arms over his teams season. Things have not panned out like he had hoped.
"Look , its our 4th season, we have traded and drafted good players to build this team up. We had a down year or two in the process, that happens. However we feel like we have enough good players on this roster to be competitive. Our defense is 2nd best defense in the league, so we cant really look at those guys costing us games. What is so frustrating and killing our chances to win is quite simply turnovers. We are first in INTs on offense and 6th in fumbles. Half the fumbles have been by our QB and have resulted in touchdowns . He had two of them alone in week 10 . You can not turn the ball over 35 times in 10 games and expect to win much, bottom line. We have got to figure out a way to drastically cut down on turnovers. If we could do that , we would have a shot to be a competitve team."
He is right, this team is only averages 311 ypg given up by their defense, 2nd best in the league. But its the offense that is lacking in many areas, but mainly the turnovers. Also they are the 4th most penalized team in the league, another thing that is hurtting them. Coach Tizel talked allittle about that as well. " We cant keep committing so many turnovers. It is putting our team in some bad spots, especially on offense when it negates a good pick up of yards on a play due to holding or blocking in the back. Then our offense instead of having a 2nd or 3rd n short , or giving up a first down , is facing 2nd and 3rd n long , resulting in Teddy forcing things and throwing ints. We have to really work on our discipline as a team and get better in that area as well."
We asked him what does he see for the remainder of this season and the one ahead. "Well, i want us to win out. Will we? I dont know but I know we will prepare our guys to do so each week. Hopefully we cut down on turnovers like we did this past week, and if we can do that , i think it gives us a great shot to do so. Even if we win out, i doubt at this point we can make the playoffs, but maybe we can knock someone else out along the way and give good momentum going into the offseason for next season. As for next season, our goal is to win 10 games, anything less will be considered a failure in my 5th season as coach. We have built this team up, now its time for us to perform."
