Week 1 season 7 Madden 16 by poohty_t

In week 1 , the Vikings faced the Ravens in Baltimore. After last seasons horrible record, the Vikings head coach has stated " we really needed to start this season off on a better foot." Part of the plan in that , was to start Rookie QB Michael Owens in place of Teddy Bridgewater in hopes of cutting down some turnovers. The Vikings liked what they saw of him in preseason and practices. However his first NFL pass in a regular season game, came as an interception on the Vikings 26 yardline n the 3rd play of the game.  The Ravens ended up scoring a TD on the short field to go up 0-7. On the very next possesion,Owens throws another interception , this time on the Vikings 30 yardline. Their defense stepped up this time and stopped the Ravens and held them to a field goal making a very quick and early 0-10 hole to start in. But it seemed it may have just been the rookies nerves as he settled down after the first quarter. He drives the Vikings down the field and hits Dareon Riley for a 38 yard TD pass to make it 7-10. The Vikings defense then steps up and gets another stop , the Vikings get a drive going , but stall out on the 20 , and settle for the fg to make it 10-10.

Then with about 1:30 left in the half the Vikings defense gives up a deep pass that sets up a td on the next play to make it a 10-17 game. Knowing the Ravens got the ball after aftertime, the Vikings felt pressure to match the td before halftime, which they did with Owens hitting some crutial passes and getting them into the endzone with 3 seconds left on the clock to tie it at 17 for the first half.

Both teams had to do some punting after the half. Then midway thru the 3rd the ravens HB Martell Lawrence broke a tackle and took it to the house for a 43 yard run to go up 17-24. The Vikings drive down the field but have to settle for a fg to make it 20-24.Then the Ravens at the start of the 4th drive down the field on a few big plays and score another run in td by their HB Lawrence to make it a 20-31 game. The Vikings felt the pressure. On their next drive, the rookie QB Owens goes down , with what they find later to be torn abdonminal muscles, and Teddy Bridgewater comes out onto the field to try n save the day. He and the Hbs get them down the field to score a td with 3:30 left in the game . The coach decided to go for two since they were down 11, in hopes they could be within fg striking distance and hoping for a defensive stop. However they failed to get the 2 points making it 26-31. It was a call many Vikings fans questioned.

On the next drive, the Vikings defense findally got what they needed, an interception on the Ravens 45 yardline with 2 minutes left. They then drove down and scored on a 35 yard run by Jerrick McKinnon . At this point it was 32-31, and they decided to go for two again , so that a fg would not beat them. Once again, they failed on the 2 point converstion keeping the score 32-31. Knowing that the Ravens could strike deep easy , the pressure was on the defense with just under 1 minute left in the game. However , on the play of the game , WR Breshad Perriman jumps up high on a highly thrown jump ball at the Vikings 20 yardline, gets two hands on the ball, only for CB Denard Olsen to come in from behind him and punch the ball out of his hands up into the air for CB Brandon Gordon to find the ball and come down with the game securing interception to seal the game for the Vikings in a hard fought battle by both teams.

After the game we talked to coach Tee. "We knew last season was a disaster, and we really stressed to the team we needed to start this season off on the right foot. While there was pleanty of ugly things we did this game that we need to tighten up on , the one good thing i can say to come from it was , we learned how to come back down in the fourth and win a very tight game. That is something that has plagued this team in seasons past, losing those close ones late in the game. So Im glad we were able to get out of here with a win in a tough environment. That said , we have alot to fix before next week . " We then asked him about his rookie Qb and his choice to start him in week 1. " Well , Teddy has had a problem thru most of his career , except for 1 season, of throwing alot of interceptions. Last season he was so frustrated he just quit carring if he threw them. We got Owens in the draft, really looking at our teams future, but he showed us some nice things in preseason and in practices that we liked. He really reminds me of a young Warren Moon an ex Viking QB. He really has the potential we believe to be like Warren alot. Also we thought , by benching Teddy maybe it would help get his head straight and try harder to cut down on the turnovers. Which he did this game but only threw 4 passes. Owens is out for 5 more weeks, so Teddy will have that time to prove to us , he should be the starter. We will continue to do what we feel is best for this team. I like the fight we showed tonight. Got down early due to turnovers, it didnt phase the rookie, actually seemed he settled in after that so maybe its good he got those jitters out of the way. We fought back, tied it up, got down 11 again, fought back and won . Thats what we need to see more of all season from this team. "

Now its time to see if Teddy has gotten his head straight next week as the Vikings face the Browns. The Ravens will face the Steelers in week 2. Both teams will have their hands full.
