The Colts went into the offseason with a plan. That plan lasted all of 10 minutes with Brisett feeling himself after a great year wanting 15 million a year to start with. The Colts felt like he had a lot of room to grow and therefore decided to go another route. The Colts having two great WRs (Hilton and Campbell) a strong running game with Carson and Hines just needed the right trigger man. But who would that be....
While the offense was in turmoil over the QB position the defense wanted to improve. Jabal Sheard a Colts stalwart decided he wanted to go elsewhere and Brandon Marshall showed major signs or regression. To solve these issues the Colts went to Free Agency. The DL lacked depth last season has added RE Carl Nassib a solid run stopper and physical presence and Former Seahawks DT Michael Bennett. Bennett coming off a down year was looking for a fresh start and the pairing of him and Campbell in the interior is going to be tough to run on. Losing Marshall hurt as he made a ton of plays and was a great mentor however the progress of Griffin a speed god with Leonard a tacklin machine the Colts wanted another piece. Enter former Eagles LB Kamu Grugier-Hill. The eagles who ran themselves out of cap had to let him walk. Hill is a rare breed of linebacker at 6'2 230 pounds Hills has the size to play Mike and the speed to get sideline to sideline. His addition should see immediate dividends in base sets.
Last but not least the secondary which was outstanding at times but faulted in two situations added two pieces. CB Mike Fors who is a 6ft Cb who can run and specializes in man coverage and SS Vonn Bell who is coming over from NO should help the secondary on the back end make up some ground and allow for some more aggressive calls.
