AFC Mid Season Report Cards
AFC EAST
Miami Dolphins: A
At 35 ppg and 18 points allowed, you can see why they are 5-1. This coach is getting the best out of his players. Doesn’t have the most talent overall but is getting the “W” QB Tannehill 20 TD and 5 INTs is a great ration. Dolphins are on pace to have two 1000 yard WRs with Parker and Grant. Rookie DE Titan Austin is playing like a Titan with 10 sacks. The defense doesn’t have as many takeaways as other teams but they are stout and stingy.
New York Jets: B
Balanced offense, top 3 defense in ppg allowed has the Jets at 5-2. Jets have 12 TDs passing and 12 TDs rushing. I haven’t watched them play but just seem like a conservative attacking offense. A lot of players on the defensive side of the ball making plays, but Avery Williams seems to be making the most plays with 5 INTs 2 sacks, 1 FF and 27 tackles. Jets not far behind Dolphins for the division lead.
Buffalo Bills: D
Poor Buffalo, they don’t have the talent like some of the teams in the league but they fight. They are struggling on both sides of the all. TE Clay leads the team with 289 yds. CB White is the star player in the secondary, but this team needs help. Maybe an infusion of youth and some players in FA will help.
New England Patriots: F
The Pats are averaging....... 9 ppg...... and allowing....... 40 ppg. Tom Brady is playing like a player that should of retired. Stayed too long. I don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel for this team. Hopefully and new scheme and vision of the future will revitalize this team in the off season.
AFC WEST
Denver Broncos: B
Broncos have a fight this year with the top 3 teams in the division fighting it out. They traded some top flight talent for Rookie phenom QB Mason Miles. Miles in Mile High! But did they give up too much talent and hurt their defense because of it? Broncos do boast a good running game with yards per carry above 6 yds. Receivers are getting there share as no receiver seems to be the lead dog. I think loosing Von Miller and his 8 sacks is going to hurt.
Kansas City Chiefs: B
Tyreek Hill gets an A. He is averaging 100 yds per game so far in the season. Almost 400 yds better then the next receiver. His avg per catch is 20 yds. Make sure you don’t leave him 1 on 1, unless you have a elite corner. For this team to take the next step defense needs more takeaways. They are getting sacks but takeaways can crush an opponent.
Oakland Raiders: B-
Derek Carr was almost traded in the off-season but wasn’t and is have a good year with 17 TDs and 8 INTs. Carr isn’t getting any help from his running game. Rookie WR Foster has 550 yds receiving and seems to be the real deal. UCF safety Geathers leads the team with 6 INTs. But overall this team needs to run better, not sure Carr can handle the weight all season long.
Los Angelos Chargers: C-
Rookie QB Heath is taking his lumps. Thrown 9TDs and 27 INTs, 54%. The turnovers is killing this team. Imagine what there record could be if it was half that. Joey Bosa is doing what he does, 9 sacks. The defense is good overall but being put in a bad position when the offense turns the ball over that much.
AFC NORTH
Cleveland Browns: A-
The Browns offense is humming, Mayfield on pace for 4000 yds. The Browns have 5 receivers over 300 yds. RB Duke Johnson has 900+ yards from scrimmage. Off-season acquisition Bobby Wagner has brought leadership and playmaking ability to the defense. If you want your QB to get hurt, just play the Browns. They have 58 sacks! How is that possible. That’s 7 sacks a game.. SMH
Cincinnati Bengals: C-
When in doubt throw it to WR Ross. Unless he is hurt. Ross is everything to this offense. 700 yds, 26 ypc, incredible. Without him they struggle, without a established running game (3.7 ypc), this offense has to gain yards in the air. They were embarrassed without Ross last game by the Browns in a heated division matchup. Let’s see if Bengals can bounce back. And get back to .500 next game.
Baltimore Ravens: D-
Lamar Jackson leads the team in rushing, that’s when you know your team is struggling to run the ball. TE Hurst is having a good year, he is projected to get over 1000 yds by seasons end. Jimmy Smith and CJ Mosley are the standouts on the defense. But they need help.
Pittsburg Steelers: D-
At 1-7 the Steelers are playing Steelers ball. They are running the ball very well, with a high ypc. They have less then 100 total attempts rushing the ball and over 220 attempts passing the ball. Why no run the ball more if you ypc is that good?
AFC SOUTH
Jacksonville Jaguars: A maybe B?
With the news of the “Playbook Scandal”, there is punishment coming down to this team. So are they as good as there 7-0 record? Or would their record be worse with the correct playbook? Playbook or not Their defense is ranked 13th in ppg with DE Campbell leading the way with 8 sacks. They have one of the best defenses on paper and can keep them in any game.
Indianapolis Colts: A-
This team is playing lights out for the personnel that they have. Marlon Mack is have a great season with over 600yds rushing. And they boast 3 receivers over 400 yds, two of them, Ebron and Hilton are over 500 yds. It’s not only the offense. The defense gets it done by rushing the passer, 32 sacks, and takeaways, 32 INTs. With Jags suspension coming down they may be able to take control of the South.
Tennessee Titans: B-
Titans at 4-3 are kind of like a lot of teams. Just above average overall with too many turnovers to TD ratios passing the ball. They are a good rushing team with 700+ total yards. Defensively the defense tries to combat the offensive passing woes. The Titans just need to improve in the passing game and they could be a force.
Houston Texans: B-
RB Foreman runs the ball well with his 394 yards at 5.8 ypc, but it seems the coach doesn’t like running the ball. Coach likes to air out. Hopkins and Fuller both have over 500yds receiving. JJ Watts 4 sacks is kind of disappointing, and overall on defense there is no one player that stands out. Deshaun Watson is feeling the heat being sacked 31 times. Maybe if they ran the ball more it would alleviate some of the sacks.
