Round 1
1.1 New York Jets- Justin Warner CB Oklahoma State
Everyone knew King was likely taking Warner at the top of the draft, and it was a solid pick. Warner has the height, speed, and dev trait to become a superstar in the league. He might have been a slight reach this high, but King had to get his guy.
A
1.2 Philadelphia Eagles- Terelle Jett EDGE Syracuse
Jett is an athletic specimen standing at 6'5 with 85 speed. Hes a bit raw when it comes to stopping the run and has limited pass rush moves, but he is oozing with potential and comes with hidden dev. I don't usually love taking pass rushers this early, but it's a solid pick all around in what seems like a generally weak class.
B+
1.3 Tennessee Titans- Jamal Bates FS Florida A&M
This was for sure a reach by Cloud, but I totally understand the reasoning. Bates is a lengthy safety with the ability to lay the wood, but he's very raw in coverage. He's a little bit older of a prospect and comes with normal dev so his potential may be limited. At the end of the day, he can easily start day 1, and that's all you can ask from first round prospects.
C+
1.4 Kansas City Chiefs- Armon Bowers CB Northwestern
Bowers is a solid, well-rounded prospect that can excel in man or zone. His ceiling is a bit limited by his speed at 91 and his normal dev trait, but he's another immediate starter, possibly even at safety. At pick 4, I think it makes more sense to go for someone with a ton of potential, but Jesse chooses the safe prospect here.
C
1.5 Philadelphia Eagles- Geoffrey Staley QB South Carolina
Staley is the best pick of the draft and it's not even close. He has a cannon attached to his arm, solid mobility, and is x-factor right off the rip. I don't have much else to say, but I'm glad Nick got his guy here at pick 5.
A+
1.6 Tennessee Titans- Steven Lindstrom QB USF
I'm sure Cloud would have been content with Staley, but his scheme require a bit more speed at qb. Lindstrom is a smaller qb, but he's got blazing speed and an above average arm. Sadly, he's only normal dev, but Lindstrom is still a fantastic qb option and I don't think Cloud should be too upset.
B
1.7 Kansas City Chiefs- Dontrell Dunlap EDGE Iowa State
Dunlap is an all around solid pass rusher, but he's a bit on the slow side and struggles in the run game. He thankfully has star dev, but besides the dev trait, this pick seems like a bit of a reach with so many other studs available.
C
1.8 Seattle Seahawks- Najee McCall FS Florida
McCall was one of the most pro-ready prospects in the draft immediately starting with 82 zone and solid tackling ability. Combine that with his solid length and star dev, and you have a pretty solid prospect here at 8. The one knock on McCall is his speed coming in at only an 87, but it's good enough for him to still be a starter. I think McCall would have been there a little bit later, but I don't hate going out and getting your guy.
B-
1.9 Dallas Cowboys- Paul House WR Clemson
House can do a bit of everything. From running routes, to going up and mossing someone, House is a stud. He's got great size at 6'2, decent speed at 90 and almost 80 route running across the board. To top it all off, he even has star dev. Now I'm a little bit shocked that he was selected over Austin Shaw who was my #1 receiver, but House still has potential to be a goon.
B+
1.10 Buffalo Bills- Shawn Moran LG Michigan
Of Course Cam takes the Michigan man at pick 10. Moran is a solid OL prospect and will likely be a starter for years to come, but I hate going OL this early in madden. My theory is that if he turns out superstar, that's a great pick, if he's anything lower, you're going to be massively overpaying for an average olinemen. Just my 2 cents.
C-
1.11 Dallas Cowboys- Darrius Silas HB Baylor
Another pick from Chase where I think there was just another guy at the same position who was better. Silas is going to be a fine runningback especially with star dev, but I just don't think he has gamebreaking potential.
C
1.12 Miami Dolphins- Chad Shead WR Notre Dame
Absolute home run pick here from Monk. Shead is almost identical to Paul House who was taken a few picks earlier, but he's got that shiny superstar dev that everyone desires. He's also fantastic at winning jump balls with 98 spectacular catch. Dolphins get a steal here.
A+
1.13 Buffalo Bills- Bo Boothe DT Georgia
Another position I hate drafting early due to the fact that you're really just praying you get a dev trait. Boothe comes in as an immediate starter as he can rush the passer with a variety of moves and is a great run stopper. He's limited by his normal dev trait, but he's still a pretty decent prospect. I still have to give this a lower grade just because of positional value.
D+
1.14 Washington Football Team- Kyrie Savage FS Notre Dame
Savage is a rare type of safety coming in at 6'4 with 91 speed. He's not the best tackler, but he can lay the wood when asked to and he's decent in coverage. He was the number 1 guy on my board and I traded up multiple times to secure him. He's also only 21 which will hopefully allow him to develop fast even with normal dev. I'm a bit disappointed he wasn't 92 or 93 speed, and I wish he had a dev trait, but I think he's the best safety from the draft and an instant starter.
B
1.15 Green Bay Packers- Grant Worthy HB TCU
This is the guy I thought Chase was going to go with. Worthy is a speed demon with 94 speed and star dev. He's likely going to have a small fumbling problem early on in his career, but the sky is his ceiling and I'm excited to see what he can do with the Packers.
A
1.16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Quinn Brown WR North Carolina
Brown has all the physical tools to be a monster in the league, but he struggles to run deep routes and isn't the biggest receiver. He has star dev though and 94 speed so I think he's going to be a very solid receiver for Gamble. I don't understand why gamble went receiver here though as he already has a nice trio of receivers. Bit of a head scratching pick, but the player is great.
C+
1.17 Minnesota Vikings- Mark Reeves WR USF
Reeves is almost the same exact receiver as Brown except his has the ability to go up and get it despite his size. Once again though, I'm a bit confused as to why Dan went receiver here and I think he's going to get buried on the depth chart. Another situation of love the player hate the pick.
C+
1.18 Cincinnati Bengals- Junior Goodwin RG Wisconsin
We're starting to approach the point where I'm at least somewhat content with taking a shot at OL. Unfortunately, Goodwin ended up with normal dev and is only a 72 overall. Underwhelming pick here when so many other solid players are available.
D+
1.19 Kansas City Chiefs- Tevin Moody DT Florida State
The Chiefs have selected 3 straight defensive players, and they're all kinda meh. Moody has exceptional size and athleticism for DT and he comes in at a 76 ovr. He only has normal dev, but he can start right away and is only 21 allowing him to dev a bit better. I think this has been Jesse's best pick so far.
B-
1.20 Tennessee Titans- Chris Harris WR Washington State
Chris Harris is a high floor low ceiling type of prospect. He's got solid enough speed and his a big body who can go up and get it. Despite his limited potential, he's a great run blocker and fits Clouds offense perfectly. I still think there were better players available, but drafting someone for your scheme is never an awful idea.
C+
1.21 Jacksonville Jaguars- Austin Shaw WR Arizona State
Shaw has to be the steal of the draft. He seems to have fallen due to size concerns, but 96 speed star dev rookies don't just grow on a tree. Fantastic value here for Kook in the late 1st. I didn't really want to draft a receiver with pick 23, but if he would have fallen to me, I would have been forced to.
A+
1.22 Chicago Bears- Kentrell Hammond MLB Stanford
Hammond is another fantastic steal here. He's slightly undersized, and isn't the greatest in coverage, but 88 speed can't be taught. Oh yeah not to mention he's superstar dev. Amazing pick here from Alex.
A+
1.23 Washington Football Team- Jose Matthews MLB Washington State.
This LB class is filled with studs and another one is taken here by myself. I thought Matthews was going to be the best LB in the class. He's 6'3, has solid blockshed, decent in coverage and has 90 speed. Matthews is an all around stud here, but I have to knock the pick a little since he's star dev.
A-
1.24 Philadelphia Eagles- Pete Rudnick LT Michigan State
We're getting closer to the spot where I'd personally be comfortable taking OL, but Nick snags a solid one here at pick 24. Rudnick has star dev and is going to develop extremely fast his first season while also being on a decently cheap contract. Decent pick here.
B-
1.25 Carolina Panthers- Ja'Mario Ramsey MLB Texas A&M
Ramsey is once again another fantastic MLB in this class. He's very similar to Matthews with his height speed and all around solid skills. He's also got star dev and is a great pick this late in the round.
A-
1.26 Kansas City Chiefs- Byron Pritchett CB N.C. State
Jesse finally gets a solid pick here with the tall athletic corner Pritchett. He's 6'3 with 93 speed. At that point, I don't care what his other ratings are. Pritchett is going to be nasty if Jesse can manage to develop him properly since he's normal dev and a bit older at 23.
B
1.27 L.A. Chargers- Donovan Middlebrooks WR Maine
Middlebrooks is a solid all around pass catcher that does everything right, but doesn't pop off the tape when watching film. The highlight of this pick is him having star dev, but I have no idea why Justin went receiver. He likely won't see the field as a rookie and this feels a bit like a wasted pick.
D-
1.28 L.A. Rams- Brian Lawton WR Texas A&M
Lawton's physicals aren't going to wow anyone, but the kid can play. He's got one of the higher overalls in the class at a 79 and has solid enough speed at 90. He's only 22 and has star dev so keep an eye on this guy as the season goes on. Solid pick for cody.
B+
1.29 Indianapolis Colts- Tony Thomas LG Boise State
Not much to say. 73 ovr star dev guard at this point is a nice selection.
B
1.30 Houston Texans- Randall McKinney TE Wyoming
Holy fuckin shit this man is massive. I would love to see his parents. McKinney is 6'9 and has 89 speed at the TE position. He's a horrific route runner and couldn't catch a cold, but the potential is there. He's likely the biggest boom or bust prospect in this draft and I can't wait to see how he develops.
B
1.31 New York Jets- Jose Adams WR N.C. State
God awful route runner, but Adams is a thick ass receiver standing at 6'2, 233lbs. He's the type of receiver you just heave it to and let them make a play since he can't run any actual routes besides maybe a drag and a go. Somewhat of a weird pick as King doesn't pass much, but it's hard to be upset with a star dev receiver this late.
C+
1.32 Houston Texans- Marcus Roberson LOLB Stanford
With the last pick in the 1st round, the texans take a speedy LB out of Stanford. Robersons an intriguing prospect as he has the ability to rush the passer, get off blocks, and is even solid in coverage. Fin could put him anywhere and he would likely succeed. I like this pick, he's just a bit raw, but the star dev will help him develop greatly.
