2019 Better League Awards

Hello and welcome to the BL Awards! After a brief hiatus the most prestigious set of awards in CFM history has returned. We had 21 ballots submitted, and I'll first show you the actual results then give my brief opinion on who should have won.

MOST IMPROVED: JUSTIN (47.4%)

Others receiving votes: Cloud (26.3%), Cam (21.1%) Austin (5.3%)

After a historic run to the Super Bowl at the end of the M18 cycle, Justin regressed to the mean with an uninspired M19 campaign. I completely agree with this result, as Justin's defensive usering (particularly against the run) and rushing efficiency with a mediocre Packers roster were both better than ever before. I think I would have had Cam as my second-place finisher, but given that he and Cloud only had one vote separating them I can't gripe about it too much.

SEXY REXY: MATT RYAN (72.2%)

Others receiving votes: Sam Darnold (22.2%), Aaron Rodgers (5.6%)

Another result I agree completely with. Ben is known as much as any other user in the BL for his aggressive air attack and his tendency to chuck the ball deep, and Matt Ryan's high YPA and suspect TD/INT ratio showed both the highs and lows of his approach to offense.

WALTER PAYTON MOTY: CONNOR & MORTY (4 votes each)

Others receiving multiple votes: Kiing, Justin

Thanks guys <3 my personal vote went to Justin. I think he is unappreciated for the amount of work he puts into the league, always pushing the rest of the admins to be better and reaching out to many users who are now a part of the league. The podcasts are fun, but Justin puts the grind in 24/7.

HANG IN THERE BUD: CHAPTEROLL (52.6%)

Others receiving votes: Phil (26.3%) Caleb & Shawn (10.5% each)

This is the result I most strongly disagree with. Phil quit a game! After almost three full cycles of uninterrupted success, Phil had by far his worst season in his BL career and will have a top-5 pick in the 2020 draft. Hang in there Phil!

BEST RIVALRY: ROSTER DUMPERS v. ADMINS (57.9%)

Others receiving votes: Phil v. Austin & Alex v. Chase (21.1% each)

Can't really argue with this one. Given that we're only one season into the cycle it's too early for any real meaningful rivalries to have developed, and the old Titans, Jets and Bills users tried to sink the league in a coordinated roster-dumping attempt. Not since Crooked 16th have we seen such flagrant disrespect.

BEST DIVISION: NFC SOUTH (57.9%)

Others receiving votes: AFC East & NFC North (21.1% each)

No one division was clearly the strongest this year, but given that the NFC South did have the highest combined win % of any division it's hard to come up with a strong case against their victory. I do think that if you put the AFC East with the old Jets user (scumbag though he may be) and the NFC South with Cmass in a giant round robin it would be a bloodbath with no clear winner. No disrespect to the NFC North but let's just say if Justin hadn't helped me come up with the nominees they may not have been included at all.

WORST DIVISION: AFC NORTH (78.9%)

Others receiving votes: NFC East (21.1%)

There may not have been a clear best division, but there was a CLEAR worst division. Congrats to Jerod on his many future divisional titles.

MOST OVERRATED USER: PHIL (3 votes)

Others receiving multiple votes: Connor, Caleb, Justin, Caiden, Evan

I mean... I guess if you look at preseason expectations vs. actual success it would have to be Phil or Caleb... I always interpreted this award as who is the current most overrated user, and in my mind that's probably Evan. I can't strongly disagree wit these results though.

MOST UNDERRATED USER: ALEX, CALEB, CAIDEN, CONNOR, JEROD, JUSTIN, OCHO (2 votes each)

This was a clusterfuck to say the least. With the benefit of hindsight I'd say the pretty clear winner is Alex, as no one had him pinned as a Super Bowl contender before the playoffs started (he was 12th in my power rankings).

Congrats to all of the award winners, and good luck to everyone in the offseason!
