A Midseason Look back at the AMG Draft

Hey guys! Today Cpt Planet and myself wanted to take a look back at the 1st round. In order to make this slightly different from GameMaster’s draft grades, we are going to be looking more at production and team fits insead of things like age and potential.

Football Team’s FS Sidney Crokett

“Crokett has looked more athletically gifted than the Football Team could have hoped for. His speed has made him an impact player early for the AMG’s 9th ranked defense.”

Analysis & Grade

1

Dolphins

Sidney Crockett (S)

Anthony Bartrow (WR)

21 Rec, 424 Yds, 4 TDs

While I think Bartow will turn out to be a good player, the Dolphins are dead last in defense. WIth Parker and a newly signed Sammy Watkins in tow, the pick of Bartrow was a luxury pick the Dolphins didn’t need. C-

2

Bears

Anthony Bartow (WR)

Antoine Slaughter (QB)

123/196 for 63%, 17 Tds, 6 INTs

Us here at On The Clock had our doubts about Slaughter and his ability to develop. Early on, he is making us look silly. A home run of a pick that has Slaughter an early ROTY candidate. A+

3

Packers

Ramon Tatum (WR)

Ramon Tatum (WR)

37 Rec, 732 Yds, 8 TDs

Packers fans have to be ecstatic about Tatum’s play. Tatum has double the amount of yards and TDs as Davante Adams, who was traded for this pick along with Edmunds. He leads the league in yards. A+

4

Packers

Cole Griffen (OG)

Eric Milstead (DE)

1 tkl, 2 sacks

While I like his combination of speed and finesse, the results haven’t been there for MIlstead yet. Both sacks came against the Vikings where he flashed his potential. C

5

Football Team

Antonie Slaughter (QB)

Sidney Crockett (S)

16 tkl, 2 INTs

Crokett has looked more athletically gifted than the Football Team could have hoped for. His speed has made him an impact player early for the AMG’s 9th ranked defense. A

6

Bucs

Ben Anderson (DE)

Ben Anderson (DE)

3 tkl, 1 sack

Like Milstead, Anderson has gotten off to a slow start. An injury has him sidelined for a few more weeks, but he hasn’t had the impact you would want from a top 10 pick just yet. C

7

Ravens

Luke McCain (DT)

Greg Kindle (WR)

20 Rec, 390 Yds, 3 TDs

Andrews, Jeudy, Brown, and Kindle. The Ravens probably have the best young receiving core the league has ever seen. But like the Dolphins, I don’t know that another WR was necessary here. Only 2.5 catches per game early. B

8

Jets

Eric Duval (MLB)

Dereck Patton (DE)

8 tkl, 5 sacks, 1 FF

Unlike the 2 DEs taken before him, Patton has gotten off to a blistering start. His 5 sacks have him in the top 10 of the AMG early. A

9

Dolphins

Dwayne Crossen  (OG)

Eric Duval (MLB)

11 tkl

While blazing fast, Duval has a long way to go to learn how to play zone coverage in the AMG. Averaging around 2 tackles per game for the 32nd ranked defense, Duval has potential he is yet to tap into. C+

10

49ers

George Bingham (C)

Artie Dillion (CB)

14 tkl, 1 INT, 1 TD

Dillion has potential but plys his craft for the 32nd ranked pass defense. While he may develop into a lockdown CB, the 49ers are asking a bit too much of their young rookie early in his career. C+

49ers’s CB Arrtie Dillion

“Dillion has potential but plys his craft for the 32nd ranked pass defense. While he may develop into a lockdown CB, the 49ers are asking a bit too much of their young rookie early in his career”

Stats

Analysis & Grade

11

Browns

Derek Patton (DE)

Christian Cobb (MLB)

19 tkl, 1INT, 1TD

Cobb is in the same mold as 9th overall pick Duval. A speedy tackling machine who needs to improve in zone coverage. Cobb has been slightly more productive and collected his 1st pick against the Steelers. B

12

Titans

Jaren Casey (TE)

Luke McCain (DT)

1 tkl

Though he was recently injured, McCain has had little impact on the Titans defense. The big man has failed to help the Titans and their 32nd ranked run defense in the run happy AFC South. F

13

Colts

Braydon Bibbs (WR)

Jonathan Bowden (WR)

43 Rec, 739 Yds, 6 TDs

Johnathan Taylor has become a forgotten man in Indy as Bowden has become the focal point of the offense. WR was a strong position group in this draft and Bowden looks solid early. A

14

Saints

Artie Dillon (CB)

Liangelo Marshall (CB)

11 tkls

Marshall has the look of a solid CB, but the production is just not there. The Saints roster was gutted but a plethora of rookies gave them hope. They are going to need more from guys like Marshall if they are going to turn around their 30th ranked scoring defense. D

15

Saints

Eric Milstead (DE)

Stephon Jenkins (S)

10 tkl, 1 INT

Like Marshall, Jenkins has been thrust into the starting lineup a little early in his career. He offers average speed and below average zone coverage. The Saints are going to need Jenkins to continue to refine his skills in order to be worthy of a guaranteed starting spot. C-

16

Chiefs

Joseph Black (S)

Jose Almodovar (TE)

4 Rec, 41 Yds, 1 TD

A lot of teams needed a talented TE like Almodovar, but the Chiefs scooped him up, maybe forgetting Kelce was on the team? Right now Jose is an overpaid insurance policy for the league's best TE. This pick could have been better spent, on anything else really. F

17

Cardinals

LiAngelo Marshall (CB)

Dwayne Crossen (OG)

21st pass, 19th rush, 22nd overall

Hard to judge an offensive lineman from the outside so we are forced to look at team success. The Cardinals employ probably the league’s worst O-line. Crossen was a need but hasn’t panned out quite yet with the teams 18 ppg. C-

18

Saints

Jose Almodovar (TE)

Trayvon WIlliams (OLB)

10 tkl, 2 INT

Another Saints rookie on defense, Williams has looked the best of the bunch. Still need more from these Saints rookies but the potential is there. B

19

Giants

DaShawn Jones (OLB)

DaShawn Jones (OLB)

11 tkl, 4 sacks, 1 FF

An absolutely electric 1st step has OTs on the backfoot on every snap. Jones has looked solid early with sacks in 3 of his last 4 games. Part of the Giants surprising start to the season. A-

20

Bucs

Delbert Cates (CB)

Bobby Gales (HB)

97 CAR, 593 Yds, 8 TDs

It was surprising to see the pass happy Bucs spend a 1st round pick on a RB, but it has worked well for both parties. Gales has flashed explosiveness and was great value at pick 20. A+

21

Steelers

Chrstian Cobb (MLB)

Max Bryan (DT)

2 tkl, 1 FF

The primary job of a DT in a 3-4 defense is to eat up blockers. I  just don’t like seeing 1st round picks on guys for them to put up 2 tackles in 7 games for the 31st ranked scoring defense. F

Cowboys’s TE Jaren Casey

“Casey recently flashed his potential with 82 yards and a TD against the Giants. Things have been a little slow for Casey but he has potential to be a good piece for the talented Cowboy’s offense.”

22

Cowboys

Lorenzo Peerman (DT)

Jaren Casey (TE)

25 Rec, 310 Yds, 2 TDs

Casey recently flashed his potential with 82 yards and a TD against the Giants. Things have been a little slow for Casey but he has potential to be a good piece for the talented Cowboy’s offense. B-

23

Falcons

Stephon Jenkins (S)

Channing Engram (WR)

10 Rec, 154 Yds, 0 TD

The Falcons were happy with Engram in the preseason but I really have to question the pick with Julio and Ridley still in ATL. Fellow rookie Abraham (of course slightly faster) has 24 catches to Engrams 10. F

24

Saints

Trayvon Williams (OLB)

Charles Strong (DT)

3 tkl

What else is there to say about 1st round DTs at this point? McCain, Bryan and Strong have 6 tackles between the 3 of them. Solid… F

25

Steelers

Malcolm Greenfield (C)

Malcolm Greenfield (C)

6th pass, 31st rush, 12th overall

No surprise the Steelers are struggling defensively after gutting their roster. However the offense has been average. Greenfield was a necessity but things haven’t quite panned out yet. C-

26

Bucs

Charles Strong (DT)

Nathon Nelson (OLB)

8 tkl, 1 sack, 1 TD

Fortunately the Bucs don't need from Nelson yet as he starts opposite Barrett. Nelson has yet to really make his mark on the AMG. He picked his 1st sack and TD in week 3 against the Saints but has mostly been quiet early. C-

27

Giants

Daniel Cox (OG)

Broderick Conway (WR)

9 Rec, 85 Yds, 0 TD

Breshad Perriman is an enigma. Last season the Saints ignored Michael Thomas to force the ball to Perriman, now the Giants ignore their 1st round rookie (though equally as fast) to feed Perriman as well. If you are New York, why in the world do you spend a 1st on a speedy WR if the plan was to feature Perriman all along??? F

28

Saints

James Barclay (CB)

Dre Sawyer (TE)

30 Rec, 463 Yds, 2 TD

Speaking of ignoring MT, we have the Saints featured receiver next. Sawyer has been a consistent target for fellow TE Taysom Hill and the newly promoted QB Brett West.Good stats early, just feels a little empty when 5 of their 7 games have been double digit losses. B+

29

Browns

Tyrone Coats (MLB)

George Bingham (C)

4th pass, 27th in rush, 7th overall

The Browns took Bingham after trading away Bitonio as a de facto replacement. While the Browns are off to a flying start, I wonder if a defensive piece would have been better for the league’s 27th ranked defense. I’m not sure Bingham was needed in the Brown’s chuck it and pray offense. B-

30

Ravens

Nathan Nelson (OLB)

Joseph Black (S)

23 tkl, 3 sacks, 1 FF, 4 INT, 1 TD

Maybe the surprise of the 1st round as Black has outshined all of the other safeties taken before him. 4 INTs and as many sacks as every 1st round DT and DE combined (save Patton). An early favorite for DROTY. A+

31

Panthers

Greg Kindle (WR)

Brayden Bibbs (WR)

32 Rec, 449 Yds, 3 TDs

The 8-0 Panthers have barely broken a sweat this year. Bibbs was brought in to help take some of the sting out of the loss of both DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel. Hard to say this hasn’t worked out for both parties. A

32

Jets

Bobby Gates (HB)

Cole Griffin (OG)

16th pass, 29th in rush, 24th overall

The offense in New York hasn’t been needed much as the Jets are allowing an insane 11 ppg. A bunch of short fields and defensive TDs has made the Jets offensive look a little lacking. But don’t be fooled into thinking Griffin is a bad pick. B-

As always, Thanks for tuning in!
