SFL Season 46 Preview: AFC West
Las Vegas Raiders: The Raiders look poised to continue their recent dominance of the AFC West. Owner Goozius Boozler remains at the helm and has already won 2 SFL Super Bowl titles (Raiders in 22 and Panthers in 21) since joining the league. The Raiders lost one of the fastest players in the league in Ruggs to off-the-field issues, but replaced him with an even better option in Davante Adams. With Adams, All-World TE Waller, and Derek Carr heading the offense points shouldn't be a problem for the Raiders. The defense has Maxx Crosby who was a 1 man wrecking crew for the Raiders last season setting sack records as a CPU-controlled player. The improved pass rush of Madden 23 will likely make Crosby even better this go around. The Raiders also have Chandler Jones to rush the QB and the AFC West has the best group of QBs in the entire league so pressure may make a huge difference in the team's defensive success. The loss of Trayvon Mullen to a trade does hurt the secondary, but Madden 23's OP interception rate makes every DB play above their head so the loss is probably not as big as it sounds. Despite playing in a division with another SFL Super Bowl Champion and 7-time Super Bowl runner-up, the Raiders look to be in the best position to win the AFC West in season 46. Predicted record: 13-4
Kansas City Chiefs: Season 46 finds the Chiefs under new management for the first time since the Madden 19 cycle. However, the Chiefs are in good hands with RClanton taking over the franchise. Clanton won SFL Super 34 with the Browns and has taken the Panthers to the title game in previous cycles as well. This will be his first year with the Chiefs, but the Chiefs are without Tyreek Hill and Tyrann Mathieu. Still, the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and Justin Reid, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. That's not a bad team by any stretch. The trick will be navigating the AFC West schedule against 3 of the best QBs in the league. In addition, the Chiefs O-Line has to contend with the brutal pass rush of the Raiders and Chargers. The AFC West learning curve may be a little steep for the first-year owner, but no doubt Clanton will be in the hunt. Predicted record: 11-6
Los Angeles Chargers: The thought of Joe leading any team other than the Kansas City Chiefs seemed inconceivable yet here we are. After leading the Chiefs to 7 SFL Super Bowls, but failing to win a single one it was time to move on. Even more surprising is that Joe would take over another AFC West team, but the Chargers are happy to have him. The addition of Khalil Mack to play opposite of Joey Bosa and loss of favorite target Tyreek Hill probably made the decision a little easier. The Chargers also boast an impressive roster with Derwin James, Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, JC Jackson and Mike Williams. With SS and XFs at all the best positions the Chargers should be a contender. This was the toughest team to gauge for season 46 and could easily be a sleeper to win the division. Predicted record: 10-7
Denver Broncos: The Broncos feature a brand new owner in his first season with the SFL in LLLHUTCHLLL. Luckily for Hutch, the Broncos added Russell Wilson in the off-season. The Broncos have been plagued with subpar QB play since Peyton Manning retired 7 cycles ago. Wilson makes them infinitely better than they have been in several seasons. Hutch is a complete unknown in the league so this last place prediction should be taken with a grain of salt. Hutch could be the best owner in the history of the SFL and dominate the league. We just don't know what to expect yet. But we do know that he's in the AFC West with 3 of the better players in SFL history so he will have to bring his A-game every week. Wilson, Jerry Jeudy, Melvin Gordon III, Patrick Suratin II, Courtland Sutton, and Justin Simmons certainly give Hutch the talent to make things happen this season. Predicted record: 8-9
