The first half of the first round took place on Saturday. With the Washington Football team sitting at 12th, the front office knew that it would be very likely that they would get an opportunity to make their selection. Gabe Moreland is who they decided to select with the 12th pick of the SFL draft.
One position that needed immediate attention was middle linebacker. Last season, the WFT were simple unable to cover the middle of the field. Moreland ran the 2nd fastest 40 time for MLB at the combine with a 4.50 - he will more than certainly be able to cover side line to side line for the WFT. Also, he ranked ahead of all other MLB on the bench press, throwing up an impressive 28 reps! I'm excited to what this kid will be able to accomplish in the SFL.
Remaining needs:
the WFT has a lot of holes that need to be addressed if they want to seriously call themselves contenders. After striking out on most big names in Free Agency, the front office will have to address these needs in the draft.
Left Tackle - Dwayne Haskins was sacked a league high 30 times. Former LSU LT Charles Saahdiq just has not lived up to his hype. There were a few Free Agent signings but nothing that assures the protection of your franchise QB.
Wide Receiver - Again, striking out in Free Agency, I think the team needs to add one more weapon for Haskins. Tyler Lockett and recent free agent signing Tyrell Williams are over 30 and I would anticipate this maybe his last season. In addition, Antonio Gandy-Golden officially has moved to tight end.
Corner - The WFT has one of the best secondaries in the SFL. However, they are starting to age and it maybe time to move on from Kendall Fuller and Ronald Darby.
This is a bit less of a concern as Landon Collins and company look to continue to be the Legion of Boom 3.0.. Id anticipate the front office spends a mid round pick to start developing replacements for the the future.
Stay tuned as the rest of the SFL draft will resume Sunday at 9 PM EST.
