STATE OF THE LEAGUE

Happy Holidays gentlemen of Gladiator League! We believe we have some of the better sim owners who play Madden competitively; you guys are active, for the most part follow and respect the rules and police the league on your own; and for that we are extremely appreciative! That being said, there are some issues that need to be addressed as we move forward to ensure we maintain the type of lg guys want to continue to be a part of. Below is a list of circumstances which have been monitored thus far that we would like to correct going forward to ensure we maintain the integrity in which we strive for within our league.

    ◦    First and foremost, know and understand the rules before entering the chat making claims about another owner. If you are unsure about any rule or have a recommendation you would like to be heard, simply DM a commish/admin.
    ◦    Play calling - Play calling is a big deal! Having a style of play is one thing but running most of our plays in 3-4 WR sets for most of the game will no longer be tolerated. There were a couple of instances this past season in which owners simply lacked balance. In the weekly training/scouting; one owners running plays stated he ran counters 100% of the time, which he has worked to change. In another instance, an owner passed the ball 90% of his games vs 10% running the ball. These are simply unacceptable circumstances which will not be tolerated. If most of your running plays are in 3-4 WR sets and shotgun formations then you clearly are not running enough plays under center because a majority of our pass plays come from 3-4 WR formations; so please monitor this because we will be closely.
    ◦    Man vs Zone - This is an issue that will never gain the 50/50 split we truly would like; however, we have come a long way in this regard. We ask that you guys continue to ensure you are not playing zone for a vast majority of the game.  Also, we ask that you are not in man for a vast majority of the game either. Mix it up fellas and you will see that your skill level will improve as well as the quality of your gameplay.
    ◦    Running plays -  The abuse of the toss or stretch plays will now be monitored much more closely due to some owners who simply try to bounce every run to the outside even when it is not necessary. As previously stated, running plays should come out of all formations, not mainly the shotgun and 3-4 WR sets. If a run play is designed to go up the middle, for the most part it should in some capacity go up the middle.  There are instances in which the defense will dictate bouncing the play, but NOT EVERY SINGLE TIME. Please adjust your gameplay accordingly because this will continue to be monitored closely.
    ◦    Hot Routes/Audibles - Hot routes are now limited to (2) per play.  Do not attempt to convince someone that leaving a RB, TE etc in to block is a hot route because it does NOT contribute to the number of hot routes. The only thing that counts as a hot route is if you actually change a pattern someone is running.  If you choose a play and need to make subtle adjustments that is fine but a pattern of calling excessive audibles and/or hot routes will now be accompanied with disciplinary action.

◦ Play Action (Yardage and Roll Outs). Play action play calling has spiked quite a bit in our league over the 1st 2 Seasons of M18. The following is being implemented to insure proper PA usage.
- No more then 1 play action play per every 3 down series (If you get a 1st down, you get another opportunity to attempt another play action play.

Play Action Roll outs will be monitored and excessive abuse will result in Disciplinary action from the league. The AI from the game allows for a normal roll out to occur so the need to continually force the QB into a roll out/run isn’t necessary unless pressure exist.

◦ QB Drop Backs- There is no reason why your QB should drop back further then 10 yards at ANY TIME during a drop back. Your QB should also never rollout when pressure does not exist on a play.

◦ Excessive Passing To One Receiver- Once AGAIN there needs to be balance between your primary receiver and secondary receivers. Catch totals should not have a great disparity. Primary and secondary receivers NEED to be within 20 catches of each other.
